The artist Deborah S. Phillips’s body of work displays a complex and varied use of a wide range of media; works of art which resist categorization and compartmentalization and focus on the expressive nature of certain elements within a piece. Through her use of installations, artists‘ books, drawings, paintings, and films, Deborah explores the intrinsic force which unites all forms of artistic creation as equal determinants of color use and carriers of emotion. She spends large periods of time in deep investigations of one particular color, wearing it, inhabiting it, and utilizing it as a guiding force in her work. Phillips’s experimental approach to material render her work a fresh, intense investigation of the way an artist renders substance meaningful.
